Meditation and Addiction recovery

We enter into a period in our lives where we’re healing from the effects of an obsession with drugs or alcohol, when we enter into recovery. Early recovery is where we learn to heal and learn to ascertain a new and healthier lifestyle that will support recovery through the rest of our lives. Recovery from addiction is really a life-long and life changing process. Restoration is not the finish line, it’s a journey. In early recovery, you were taught many things to assist them on the path to recovery. Some of the tools provided are important, and some are optional.

A lot of people do not understand that relapse is a major threat in early recovery. Relapse is a fall in sobriety or clean time after a deliberate amount of abstinence from drugs and/or alcohol. Relapse can be described as a hit to recovery, or it can function as the beginning of a complete backward slide. In either case, it’s dangerous. That is why it’s essential to work to prevent relapse as best we could, through application of numerous methods and procedures to help us control any urges we may need to use or drink again.

In recovery, we have to understand to cope with feelings and stress that could cause us to desire to drink or use drugs again. We also have to learn how to cope with these urges when they do show up. One of the simplest methods that’s motivated to ease stress and perhaps not give in to any desires that prompt relapse is yoga.

Meditation and addiction recovery go together. We are taught that in addiction recovery, we have to study to relieve stress and to calm our minds on an everyday basis as to not become overwhelmed and want to self-medicate or to relieve stress with other substances. Meditation allows us to clear our minds and to rest in an easy and healthy way, the one that has been found to be helpful not just to spirits and psyche, but also to our thoughts.

because meditation permits us to escape and to calm whenever we are experiencing those relapse urges, and then be able to get back to reality more balanced and relieved without giving into those urges meditation and addiction recovery are often paired together by experts.
