Alcoholism is an illness of the body and mind that can greatly influence the lives of the people that allow us it, together with the lives of the people around them. Not merely is this illnesses life altering, it could also be life threatening. A great number of people around the world have trouble with this disease, approximately 140 million people. However, for as many alcoholics as there are, there are also a lot of people on the planet who was able to stop drinking and stay stopped. Many individuals have taken the required measures to combat alcoholism, learned to deal with the chronic nature of alcoholism, and have entered into a life of sobriety.
Keeping sobriety after treatment is something that may be incredibly difficult. Alcoholism never disappears entirely, it is a chronic, incurable infection. It may however be arrested. Through treatment it’s possible to achieve sobriety, but preserving sobriety after treatment is a process.
Once a person stops drinking it becomes obvious to the alcoholic that things need to change within their life in order to maintain sobriety. If a person is employed to going to a bar every night, they’ll need to look at changing their daily practices. Some alcoholics used to drink all-day. They want something in their life to complete besides drink.
This can be a good time to attend 12 step meetings. Most likely the person has been attending A.A. meetings in therapy. It is recommended that they carry on to go to meetings after-treatment. Meetings give you the recovering person having a strong support system. It is also a great way to produce friends. There are usually cultural events that A.A. members program from meetings giving the members a chance to socialize and have a great time. Sobriety doesn’t have to be boring; as a matter of fact it’s rarely boring. Many sober members of A.A. are astonished at how complete their lives are in recovery.
It is recommended that sober alcoholics focus on these in order to stay sober:
* Live a healthier and active lifestyle that helps over all physical, emotional, and spiritual health
* Continue to read literature regarding sobriety and recovery
* Be element of a 12-step program such as A.A. or N.A.
* Avoid negative people and people that drink intensely or use drugs
* Be surrounded by supportive people positive and
* Avoid individuals, places and items that might trigger a relapse
