Many people may be unaware of this fact, but the fact remains that nearly 12 million people in our country are dealing with some sort of depression. Everyone on the planet has probably woken up depressed at some point or another. But these statistic people I just quoted spend the majority of their days facing depression. Depression is a frightening reality and can affect anyone. That’s why it’s important to get a proper diagnosis and treatment plan. So here are some depression treatment facts. First you want to achieve remission of the depression. That means you have gotten rid of all of your symptoms. The next step you want to achieve is sustaining that remission. Those are the goals of treating depression. Sounds pretty simple, but this is a lifelong battle for those who suffer from depression. Depression tends to recur if it is not properly treated and maintained. The fact of the matter is that everything is o.k. for a while but then when the medication gets low, or gets forgotten, or the patient thinks that they are cured and no longer need treatment, the depression can come back even worse and be more difficult to get rid of. That’s why it is important to maintain treatment and always be aware that depression is no laughing matter. According to one website, treatment for depression happens in three sections. The first stage’s goal is to relieve the symptoms. This treatment usually takes six to eight weeks. The second stage deals with sustaining that remission. This time frame is usually around four to five months. If the symptoms return during this time, it is called a relapse. The third stage is called the maintenance stage. The goal of this stage is to maintain treatment therapy in order to keep at bay, a new episode of depression.

While going to college I have seen first hand how a 12 step campus can benefit a person. While not an alcoholic myself, I have addicts in my family, and my group of friends. One of my closest friends decided to try a 12 step programon campus three months ago and the results have been extraordinary. She has taken that brave first step of admission, and surrendered her decisions to a higher power and a group of supporters. By doing so, she is able to stay in control one day at a time. The 12 step campus she is a member of allows her to stand tall in difficult situations where her addiction could normally get the better of her. Within 90 days she has rebuilt her metabolism, her energy level, her exercise pattern, and most of all, her happiness. She writes in her book every night after doing her homework and before going to bed, about the journey she accomplished that day. She calls her sponsor at 6:45 every morning before class to commit her plan for the day. The amount of resolve she has to this 12 step school of thought is admirable and makes me question what I’m missing out on. I claim no dangerous habits of my own, but is that the truth?

Drugs are made to provide the human body health benefits. In such a way, doctors prescribe these drugs and patients take these drugs to alleviate their pain and make their conditions better. These drugs do not however provide only benefits. These drugs can help an addict in the detoxification and withdrawal process but these may also in turn become another substance of abuse in the long run. Drugs like these should be prescribed with close and careful guidance by the physician.
