Alcohol Addiction

In terms of drinking alcoholic beverages, the experience is quite common. The effects of alcohol is even quite common. In a normal condition, after drinking a handful, the person may become dizzy and feels like vomiting. The term “tipsy” is given to this kind of condition. Alcoholic drinks has ingredients that go to a part of the brain and modify its function, thus, imbalance happens, violent and risky behaviors, and irrational thinking. On the other hand, being tipsy can be helped. An ample amount of asleep and a cup of hot coffee is all a tipsy person needs to overcome the “tipsiness”

.

In the case of alcohol addiction, it is quite different. People who are tangled into alcohol addiction could not stop drinking despite the negative consequences. Alcohol addiction is a very big drinking problem wherein drinking alcoholic drinks becomes a habit to the person. This is a problem because the drinking habit may produce undesirable and negative effects. The main effect of alcohol addiction is to persuade the sufferer to drink at times and in amounts that are damaging to physical health. The secondary damage is caused by the failure to control one’s drinking manifests in many ways. Alcohol addiction also has significant social costs to both the alcoholic and their family and friends. Alcohol addiction can have adverse effects on mental health causing psychiatric disorders to develop.

Alcohol addiction is one cause why there are abused women and children. There is an easy air of violence once alcohol is taken in. Most often, it is the wives and the children that are inflicted with the violent behaviors. Though we may say that these people are not sober when they beat their wives and children but then, they could not take away the trauma and the painful memory they have left in their loved ones.

Alcohol addiction could be inherited. If one traces his family tree, and one of his family members or ancestors are alcoholics, then the person may be at risk for alcohol addiction. The gene responsible for alcohol addiction is currently being studied. However, there are also other factors that might contribute to one’s alcohol addiction such as the kind of friends you have and the amount of stress you currently have.

As we all know, family is the basic unit in society. This is the avenue where one first learns to talk, to think, to feel, and to response. When a father has a drinking problem, he could be a causal factor to his son’s drinking problem in the future. The father will be seen as a model by the child. The father is usually seen as the primary role model for one’s own behavior. Thus, the child may learn that it is alright to be drinking all the time. This is disturbing because as the child grows, no one could be there to guide him or her as to what is really right and wrong. The mother may not be aware of the transference that is happening to her child.

Moreover, alcohol addiction is a disease that nobody seems to accept. This would create a problem because an alcohol addict might have a hard time accepting his or her situation. Some would say they are functional alcohol addicts. Still, it means the same. Denial only seems to be present. Yes, they function well when they are sober, but as soon as they get their hands on a bottle of beer, they become the alcohol addicted dad or the alcoholic and violent son. Though the happening of alcohol addiction is prevalent among men, women are never exempted. Women is also at risk of alcohol addiction. They are never safe from this kind of problem.

Alcohol addiction is a situation that can manifest everyone. No man and woman is safe.
