Advantages and disadvantages

June 28th, 2009

Advantages and disadvantages

Advantages of a money making businesses in 2009 include having a

flexible schedule; integration of family and work responsibilities; less involvement with

others in a regular work environment, such as power struggles and red tape; no commuting time

(unless you travel to a customer’s home or place of business); control of your own personal

environment (temperature, light, work breaks, etc); self-determination and independence;

increasing personal fulfillment; seeking and setting personal goals; enhancing creativity; and

remaining in a community or moving with a spouse to a new community even when jobs are scarce

or not available.
Disadvantages of a money making opportunities include needing to

know a lot of information to operate a business successfully; the risk involved in operating a

business; conflict in ownership of time (When is it my “own” time and when is “business”

time?); lack of guaranteed employee fringe benefits; many competing roles and responsibilities

(producer, promoter, bill collector, customer service representative); lack of job security;

loss of home space use by family; interruptions; lack of self-discipline; little opportunity to

delegate tasks to others; long hard hours, and legal requirements including zoning regulations.

Being committed to a business may mean lack of freedom to do other things and to go as you

please.

Visa or MasterCard?

June 28th, 2009

Visa or MasterCard?

Both cards are usually accepted everywhere but there are still places where some business line of credit cards are not accepted. If all other factors are equal, it probably wouldn’t be advantageous to compare building business credit cards between Visa and MasterCard, because one or the other is usually accepted.

5 Essential Ingredients of a Successful Online Work at Home Business

June 27th, 2009

5 Essential Ingredients of a Successful Online Work at Home Business

5 Essential Ingredients of a Successful Online Work at Starscapes.com business opportunity by: Carolyn Erickson
The internet changes daily as far as what works and what doesn’t when it comes to making money online.
If you are new to work at home online businesses, your head can spin with all the hype, sales pitches , and outright lies as far as the reality of starting up an online home based business.
There are however a few things to look for in your search for a work at home business that can become some nice additional income, or even better, your “job”. Working at home, generating $1000 a day is far from what I call a “job”.
To help ease your frustration, and point you in the right direction for what you should be looking for in today’s online marketplace, the following summarizes the 5 essential ingredients in a winning work at home online business opportunity.
Later in this brief overview, I will offer a “secret” to online success that is rarely mentioned in the many articles written on the subject.
1. SYSTEM- This may be the most crucial item to your success. You need a System that generates prospects, educates them on your business opportunity, sorts and weeds out those that are not interested in your offer, then closes the sale at a conversion rate that ensures profitability. The System must be as automated as possible so you aren’t spending hours cold calling or following up with people that are probably not interested, then trying to use your sales closing skills to make a sale.
Think of the successful off line businesses such as McDonalds, Tim Hortons or Subway. Do you think they could duplicate those businesses all over the country, setting up new franchise owners to run these businesses, without a SYSTEM that works?
2. BIG Profits- This is important as the advertising needed to result in sales can be quite costly. For some $1000 price point business programs, it isn’t unusual to spend $200, $400 or even $600 to make that $1000 sale. Of course, there are ways to also spend $0 in advertising, but the reality is advertising is often on the range where to make $1, you may need to spend $0.40. Your profit is still $0.60. Would you do that over and over if you had a automated system in place to make this happen? Big Profits allows enough profit so your advertising cost is well covered by your selling price. You can’t do much advertising to make a profit on selling a $20 ebook for example.
3. Hot Products- Yes, the product must be tangible and have use and value. There are many new business opportunities that offer $75,000 or more worth of downloadable products that sell for $1000. That’s pretty HOT, and full of value. Having a product that can be downloaded, means NO shipping. Now that is just way too easy.
4. Leads and Traffic- This is probably the most perplexing for most new work at home business owners. An online business will never make any money without a source of leads (prospects). The key to providing leads to an online business is they need to be targeted.
This means you need to advertise to a niche market of people looking for exactly what your offers. Seems so simple a concept, but so may people struggle in building their prospect list.
5. Support and Training- as with any business start up, you need to learn your work at home online business program.Make sure that your business program has ample training and resources so you know exactly what to do to get those prospects to your System. This is not always easy to figure out when doing your due diligence on an offer.
As a suggestion, make sure you ask for examples of where and how you will advertise. Also ask where will you get the wording for the ads,who will write the ad copy and the followup messages, what the conversion rates are for your system. If your sponsor can’t provide good answers, then they may not be that successful themselves.
This is just a brief overview of what today’s online business programs need to cut through the many offers out there and make your business stand out to others.
Earlier I mentioned I’d offer a “secret” to successful online work at home business programs that is rarely mentioned in the various sales pitches. The true secret just might be you.
Most people do not realize they are starting up a real business. There will be ups and downs, profitability may not come overnight, or you may expect riches in the first few days.
I am sure some people have had such success, but most starting out, very likely start with leads, no prior list of prospects, and a small advertising budget. You then need to make good decisions to leverage your sales to grow your business.
The best way to accomplish an online business start up is with the very best automated SYSTEM. Then you can spend most of your time on advertising and growing your prospect list- leaving the rest to the system to close sales which will deliver you paying customers. Then you can train your new customers to do what you know how to do!
For more information on automated systems, please take a look at our main business review website.

To your success!

Browse the Internet

Everything, including one’s building business credit, is digital these days. The way to find the best business line of credit card rate is to go online and find the average credit card rates for standard, gold and platinum credit cards. The fixed rate for a standard building business credit card averages around 13.08%, the variable rate is 14.39%. For a gold card, the fixed rate is 11.41% and the variable 13.37%, while the platinum is fixed around10.17% and variable is 13.60%. The higher “level” the card, the more you are able to save on the interest. Rates change, so it’s good to check in every so often to decide which one is right for you.

If you’re considering a work-at-home opportunity

June 15th, 2009

If you’re considering a work-at-home opportunity

Legitimate home business program sponsors should tell you in writing what’s involved in the program they are selling. Ask the promoter:
What tasks will I have to perform? (Ask the program sponsor to list every step of the job.)
Will I be paid a salary or will my pay be based on a commission?
Who will pay me?
When will I get my first paycheck?
What is the total cost of the home business opportunity program, including supplies, equipment, and membership fees?
What will I get for my money?
Then ask yourself whether the claims are based on wishful thinking or real market conditions. The answers to these questions may help you determine whether a work-at-home program is appropriate for your circumstances, and whether the claims can be realistic.

Bank Advice

June 14th, 2009

Bank Advice

The advice is that you should definitely ask around; a bank will never advertise openly such a thing as 0 interest business line of credit card unless it has a catch to it. So, even when you do get such a benefit be wary of it and read all the fine print. Banks and financial institutions are there to make money off you, not to give it away to you or anyone for that matter

To apply for a business line of credit card is not more difficult than applying for a bank account, a driver’s license or a social security card. However, it is always better to be prepared as many companies send unsolicited pre-approved applications through the mail and most often have hidden charges nestled in the fine print.

MLM Prospecting - How To Improve Your Sign Up Rates

June 14th, 2009

MLM Prospecting - How To Improve Your Sign Up Rates

Did you know that one of the fastest ways to chase away your prospects in network marketing is to hunt them down like a rabid bull dog? This happens all the time in network marketing circles as people who are new to network home based business opportunity marketing, has virtually zero experiences in marketing. Simply put, they are not even marketing their product or their opportunity at all because they are pushing the business down their prospects throat.
Here are a number of ways that you can improve your sign up rates without appearing like a sleazy sales person to your prospects.
(1) Learn to position yourself as an expert in their eyes. One of the reasons why people are sick and tired of MLM in general is because they keep getting hunted down by all these desperate people. However, if you are perceived like someone who can bring great value to others, they will be magnetically attracted to your persona and your charisma, saving you tons of effort in recruiting and prospecting.
(2) You must also be able to understand your prospect’s needs. Don’t sit there and go on and on about your home business
while neglecting the feelings of your prospect. Remember, people do not care how much you know until they know how much you care. By giving thought to your prospect, you can improve your success rate with less effort.
(3) Don’t sell your main business opportunity on the first meeting. This technique is taught by Mike Dillard - an network marketing expert. He believes that in order to sponsor others effectively and make money, you must begin your sales funnel by marketing, not selling, a low cost information product that gives people an idea what this business is all about. In essence, even if the prospect doesn’t sign up with your main opportunity, you can still make money from them when they buy your low cost information product or even a small retail product.
(4) Helping others to understand the nature of a home based business is also largely depending on your approach. If they perceive you as a person who desperately begs for business, sub-consciously they might feel as though they will have to do the same as well if they join up. By not appearing so desperate, they won’t feel intimidated to do the same themselves and hence, will give you a better chance at signing up the prospect as a new customer or even as a long term business builder.

In that case, you can either hope that when you apply for a business line of credit card, someone will take a leap and offer you a line of building business credit. Or, if you can show just cause, you can contact the financial institution and discuss your situation. This is another good reason to apply for a card at your bank where you have a credit line (or at least an account) already established.

Advertising, Promotion and Distribution

June 8th, 2009

Advertising, Promotion and Distribution

The difference between advertising and promotion is that advertising is easier and more effective once you identify your customers and determine market potential. This will help you to determine when, where, what and how to advertise. Advertising lets prospective customers (target market) know about your product and makes them want to buy from you. Effective advertising gets the right message to the right audience at the right time plus is measurable so you can determine if it is increasing sales. It creates a business image in the customer’s mind, increases customer information, about the home business and attracts customers.
Choose forms of advertising and the distribution method by their appropriateness to your business. Remember to use a mix of advertising methods. Experts say to not spend your entire advertising budget on one type of media. Take advantage of every opportunity to promote your business. Promotion can be done through news stories of your grand opening or local radio news programs.
Computer marketing. The newest form of advertising and marketing is on-line. It is estimated that over $1 trillion worth of commerce will be done over the Internet by the year 2002, and that most of the products sold will be by entrepreneurs. Advertising can be done for little cost on local bulletin boards and community pages, to sizable monthly fees for sophisticated marketing services. To sell on-line you will need to establish an attractive web page with quality pictures and exact descriptions of your products. You will also need to be ready to accept credit card orders. An advantage to marketing this way will be your access to a much larger market.
Word of mouth. Word-of-mouth advertising can be a powerful medium for a home based business opportunity in the local area. It is sincere, believable and unsolicited. It is also uncontrollable, so you will want to make sure that it is positive advertising. It is largely up to you to make sure that your product and the experience your customers tell others about is the kind of advertising you want. Be professional and prompt, meet deadlines, keep appointments, and do not accept more work than you can deliver. These good business practices and friendly hospitality will enhance your business and make people want to come back. It takes time to build a reputation.
Brochures/Hand-Out Flyers. A brochure or flyer can be small, inexpensive and attractive and is an excellent method to advertise your business. Get advice from a printer or hire a graphic designer to help with the layout of pictures, text and lettering. Do not invest money in these items if you did not consider how either will be used or who it will be used for and it is constructed in such a way that it will be opened, read and responded to. They have many uses but are wasted if not well planned.
Direct mail. Mailing brochures or letters to businesses or people likely to become customers may be helpful when you first open your business. Mailing again at regular intervals throughout the year also may help but you must keep an up-to-date mailing list. Direct mail is most effectively used on clients within a 50 mile radius of your business if it is only used to advertise and not for orders. If orders are taken, distance is no object. It adds a personal touch as a direct communication between you and your customer. Mailing can be expensive and should be weighed with the other options.
Bulletin boards. Post professional looking brochures, flyers or business cards on public bulletin boards in restaurants, grocery stores, laundromats, apartment complexes, schools or anywhere visible to your target market. It is common courtesy to ask permission to post. Some locations specify where posters can be used or may not permit their use.
Newspapers. Contact the local editors and tell them about your new service or product. An editor may want to do a feature story, especially about your grand opening. Getting an article may be easier if you can tie into the activities of a charitable organization, a benevolent group or a community activity. Include a black and white picture and send along a news release. An article like this is promotion and not advertising, but may be very effective.
Newspaper advertising should be done on a consistent basis. People need to see your ad several times before it will stick in their minds. Ask to have your ad placed in the same place each week and preferably on a page that is highly read. Placement does make a significant difference in whether or not an ad is noticed. Color and size also make a difference but do cost more.
Classified ads are usually inexpensive and appropriate for a small business. Run ads in local newspapers and shoppers’ guides in your community.
Shows and displays. Depending on your type of business, it may be appropriate to display some of your work in a public library or bank along with your business cards for people to take. You can also use road signs.
Other businesses. You may want to advertise in a business that is complementary to yours. For example, a fabric store for alterations or gourmet food store for cooking classes. This type of advertising benefits both businesses.
Yellow pages. Check with the phone company for the time of printing for the next book. Be sure to get your business name in the white pages and consider a yellow page ad. A listing in the yellow pages can be helpful but may have a charge, so check with your local phone company. Always consider your customer. Would a potential customer consult the yellow pages looking for your type of product or service?
Local radio and TV. Many radio stations have local talk shows. Call the directors and see if they are interested in discussing your new business. Radio ads give you the flexibility to choose the audience that will hear your advertisement. This can be done by choosing the station and time of day the ad is broadcast. The radio sales agent can help you to design your ad to meet your goals.
Television ads can be effective but are very expensive to produce and run. Local cable companies may provide low cost space on their cable access page. Distribution can also be accomplished via television. Shows like QVC and other home shopping shows are popular and effective, but you must have a significant supply on hand that can be shipped immediately. Infomercials are also gaining in popularity but are very expensive to produce and air.
Specialties. You may want to offer matchbooks, pens, calendars, decals, balloons or other tokens of appreciation for doing business. Many of these items have long-term use and make good seasonal gifts. You could print stickers or labels to attach to every product. However, labels may be expensive. Weigh the cost and the advantages of the items depending on your particular business.
Telemarketing. Telemarketing is a sales approach that is done entirely by the phone. It may be selling to customers who call or calling potential customers.
Selling on Consignment. You may choose to sell on consignment, where the retail store displays your products, advertises and sells them for you. For this service, they charge a flat fee of 30 to 50 percent of the selling price. The store generally pays its consignors once a month for merchandise sold. A consignment store should reflect a neat and friendly yet businesslike appearance. Other merchandise in the store should be similar in quality to yours. The store owner should be able to suggest realistic selling prices for your products.
Since you own the products until they are sold, the store is not responsible for theft or damage. Another disadvantage is that your money is tied up in the merchandise until it is sold. It’s in your inventory, not the store’s. If an item does not sell, it may be returned to you in less than salable condition or be out of date. Inspect written agreements carefully. Make sure to include all of the details you find necessary to protect your investment, including length of shelf time.
Chamber of Commerce. Joining the local chamber of commerce and other professional organizations is a good opportunity to make valuable contacts and participate in community activities. It also helps makes your business visible.
Additional ideas and information can be obtained from the following:
Read magazines, trade journals and observe competitor ads in newspapers.
Talk with public relations people and others who promote products and services to find out the best ways to advertise your business.
Attend trade shows. The wholesalers and distributors have excellent ideas on what they would do if they were in your shoes. If you are wholesaling, visit with your suppliers. Gain contacts to meet with others who are in a business similar to yours. If you are not in their market or potential market, many will be glad to share their expertise.
Consult people in the franchise business or in unrelated franchises if you are considering this form of business. Determine how they reach their clientele and learn their repeat sales techniques and the preferences of those customers.
Depending on the suitability of your business, don’t overlook parades, mall shows, gallery shows, street fairs, summer festivals and county fairs.
Plan your advertising based on a set budget. This can be determined by spending:
The same amount as last year.
What the competition does.
A percentage of your sales.
To meet your objectives (example: increase sales by 10 percent).
Regular, steady, targeted advertising attracts more customers than splashy, appeal-to-no-one advertisements. Zero in on your specific target audience with cost-effective advertising. Plan an appropriate advertising theme using the name of your business and featuring a logo (if you have one). People tend to remember and trade where there are catchy (not overly cute) names, slogans and logos.

How Having 8 Legs Can Create Leads For Your Business

June 7th, 2009

How Having 8 Legs Can Create Leads For Your Business

In any business opportunity, the money has to come from somewhere. Whether it’s from sales revenue or service charges or other transactions, the bitter business truth is that every dime in your pocket used to be in someone else’s.
It’s not a bad thing. Just because you have money that used to be in someone else’s possession doesn’t mean that the former owner is now busting out the food stamps. Through however many transactions between however many parties, you received money, and they received either goods or services. And that’s how an economy works.
On a less Macro scale, in the world of network and multi-level marketing this principle remains especially true and obvious. At the very core of your business, you make money through the sale of goods or services to someone. You yourself may never sell a thing and be living in a huge mansion, but odds are you’re benefiting from the sale of something to someone. This system of making sales work for you is part of the appeal of MLM. Downlines. You benefit from the work of others. The more people you have in your downlines, the more profit you are making. Downlines make sales. You make money. End of story. But what’s the name of the game?
Leads. The hottest commodity of MLM. If you’ve got ‘em, you’ve got it. If not, you’re going to be working really, really hard to pay for that huge mansion on door-to-door sales and Tupperware parties. If you can get downlines, you can get money. In order to have downlines, you need leads. In short, leads equal money.
And that’s the MLM secret, which you already know, of course. It doesn’t take a genius to figure out that you can’t make a fortune by yourself in this home based business opportunity. But just because you know that you need leads doesn’t mean you can find them. And that’s where so many MLM ventures fail. It is a commonly reported statistic that well over 90% of those involved in MLM never make a profit. But you can bet that a healthy supply of leads will keep in you in the successful ten percent.
There’s a couple different ways to go about it. You can do what most MLMers do (and fail): make a list of your friends and family (sound familiar?), pass out ‘business op’ fliers, spend lots of money and have social functions, beg, plead, scream, pass out, wake up, continue. Eventually, the strenuous effort takes its toll on your health and you leave the industry to do something a little more docile and less stressful on your health, like substitute teaching in an alternative high school.
Personally, I I went door to door, I called local businesses and tricked whoever answered the phone into coming in for a job interview, I passed out Flyers, I spent THOUSANDS of dollars on leads, with limited success.
There is a better way. A way to channel leads to your business who come looking for it. The Spider Web Marketing System is a system designed to do one thing: generate leads. And it does so with the greatest effectiveness and efficiency in the industry. It’s based on what is called the funded proposal system, a system that utilizes highly developed Internet marketing strategies to bring interested, real leads. The best part of funded proposal, and the great appeal of The Spider Web Marketing System, is that it perpetuates itself, so that it keeps itself going and continues to generate income for you, while continually sending quality leads your way.
There are other ways to get leads. You can put down some serious cash for “lead lists” who will give you pages and pages of innocent people who have been called a hundred times, and you can work off of that. But with Spider Web Marketing, these are leads that come to you. They are “fresh leads,” meaning that they have not been called before or come from any list. These are people, who using the Internet, seek out a business opportunity and come straight to you.
The SpiderWeb Marketing System has been great for me because Kimball and his corporate staff have been very helpful, I researched thoroughly and know this is the best system, I am excited to gain solid leads, It has been wonderful so far. Its helped me get more leads, grow my business, and make more money, and helped me on my goal to Buy my dream house, Gain financial freedom, Buy a second home, Become a Trillionaire, Retire early.
Basically, The Spider Web Marketing System is a lead generating machine. And in a business where leads are the name of the game, that’s a piece of equipment you can’t afford to be without.

All this information is sent to you in the mail so be careful not to throw those monthly envelopes out, it may look like junk mail but you should go through anything about your bank business line of credit card just to be sure. This way there will be no confusion about rates you have never heard about and so on.

How Much Can You Pay?

If you are using your bank building business credit card for fixed purchases like gas or groceries, you should pay off your bill in full every month.

A New Home Based Business Starts Every Ten Seconds - Are You Ready?

May 31st, 2009

A New Home Based Business Starts Every Ten Seconds - Are You Ready?

Running your own Starscapes.com business opportunity is just one of many ways to make money. It is the same as owning your own traditional business and should be treated as such. You will need to advertise your business, sell and promote any products and get others to join your team. It takes allot of hard work, not to mention time and dedication. However, the potential for success is great and can be very rewarding.
Before starting a home business
you need to figure out what is real and what is a scam. You must do your homework. The Internet is great for researching anything, including getting the facts about any business opportunity.
1. Look for any information about a company before joining. Look for complaints, investigations or misleading information about the products.
2. Try and get a friend for their opinion about a company, not to join with you but just to help you make a decision.
3. Talk to people who are familiar with a company that you are interested in. What sets that company apart from all the rest?
4. Check with the Better Business Bureau and the Chamber of Commerce. How long has the company been in business? Search for any news relating to the company, good or bad.
5. What product do they offer? It is extremely important that the product is reasonably priced and a consumable. Can the product be ordered and consumed every month? Would a customer want to order and consume it every month?
6. Stay away from companies that require you to stock up on inventory. Find a company that only requires you to purchase enough products for a month at a time.
7. Avoid high start up costs. They are usually a sign that a company is just looking to make a profit and not to provide a useful, quality product. Think about it, why should you pay an outrageous amount to start a business? What purpose would it serve except to give someone else your money?
8. What is required before you actually get a check? Make sure you understand how you will get paid and what is required for you to get paid before starting.
9. Does the company provide support and training? Support is extremely important, you will need help and you will need training. Who is your sponsor? How long have they been with the company and will they provide the support you need to be successful?
10. Is there a refund policy?
11. Your compensation should be based on the purchase of a product by a customer. If you cannot figure out what the product is, then avoid that company.
12. Before signing on the dotted line talk with others in the business to see what they have to say about the company and the compensation plan.
Remember that all good things take time and patience. If you plan out your business before beginning then your chances for succeeding are greater then just by jumping into the first opportunity that you come across.
Most people join an opportunity with the mistaken notion that just by signing up and getting a free website to promote will make them wealthy overnight.
There is no secret formula to building a successful home business. Yes it is possible to work smarter by automating allot of your tasks. But to build a business takes work and lots of it.
TIP: Find a mentor. If you can establish a relationship with a good mentor who cares about making you a success, then stick with them! They are few and far between.
Starting a home business may be the best decision that you will every make. The variety is much larger then it use to be, thanks to the internet.
Nothing can be more satisfying then doing your own thing at home.
Having plenty of time to spend with loved ones along with a very profitable business is indeed a wonderful thing.

Other factors to consider

May 31st, 2009

Other factors to consider

The decision to go into business is based on a thorough study of factors such as the potential market, sales promotion and advertising, location, making the product or setting up the service, delivery of the product and profit potential. Consultation with a small home business expert such as a Small Business Administration Service Corps of Retired Executives Association (SCORE) counselor or the Small business opportunity Development Center (SBDC) staff (1-800-445-7232) will help you decide if the particular small business would be feasible and help find answers to the following and other related questions: How likely is it that the business will be profitable? What is the competition? Is there a long-time need for the product or service, or is it a fad-type item? Are you an expert in producing the product or service?

Are you stepping out into success?

May 31st, 2009

Are you stepping out into success?

Many of us think of applying the pressure as failing. ‘The pressure is coming. Oh my gosh! What

am I going to do? The pressure is coming.’ But pressure doesn’t need to be a negative: I love

this quote.

Pressure is a word that is misused in our vocabulary. When you start thinking of pressure, it’s

because you started to think of failure. Tommy Lasorda

When you stop and think about what happens in life, pressure is being applied constantly in

many different arenas. An example would be rush hour traffic that puts more and more pressure

on the highways. As the population grows more and more pressure is added. What happens? Do we,

as a society, give up and say ‘oh, well. Too Bad? It’s just going to take you that much longer

to transit into work’? Your commute time, instead of being an hour and a half, is going to be 2

hours. And in 3 years from now, it’s going to be 4 hours. Or do we take the action, as a

society, as a city, as a person and do something to relieve that pressure? Yes we do something

that will alleviate the pressure for all of that traffic coming into the downtown core.

We as a society, as a city, step into success. We do something to alleviate that pressure. We

can learn to apply that concept in our life. Instead of taking a look at the pressure as a bad

thing we can use it to build something new, a bridge to our future. Do we do what Tommy Lasorda

said-misuse that word ‘pressure’ and think of it as ‘oh, I’m going to fail, I’m going to fail’

and then give up? - or do we CHOOSE to do something different and step into our own success?

We all have habits. What is your ‘it’? What is the ‘it’ that stops you? When you start to feel

that pressure, what do you do? Next time that happens, I want you to stop and think, ‘what am I

automatically doing here’? Then decide to do something different in order to get a different

result.

When I was first introduced to this concept, I did not recognize what habit I fell into until I

was all the way in it. Stress eating was one of the things I used to do. As I learn to

recognize where that pressure point is, what my habit is, what my ‘it’ is, I, can learn how to

change it, how to react differently.

I just watched the movie ‘What the Bleep?! - Down the Rabbit Hole’. One of the concepts in the

movie is that we, as human beings, are bombarded every second with 400 billion bits of

information. We only process 2000, therefore we need to choose carefully which bits we pay

attention too. When we succumb to the pressure and fall into a negative habit, like I used to

when I was stress eating, we are selecting only a narrow negative portion of information from

the 4 billion bits..

I have decided that I am going to choose a different 2,000 bits of information. It really is

just a choice.. We need to recognize what our habits, and that we can change our habits.

Millions of people have learned how to stop the stress eating habit. Millions of people have

learned how to quit smoking. Millions and millions of people have learned how to make their

life and best home business to start better, how to step into

success. If they can do it, I can do it. If I can do it, you can do it. It’s all just a simple

choice, to make a different decision.

If you are a parent ask yourself, if you choose non-success habits, what are the habits and

passions that you are creating in your children? Are you creating a generational curse or a

generational legacy? Another great quote is “children have never been good at listening to

their elders. But they have never failed to imitate them”. by James Baldwin. Even if you aren’t

a parent what about the influence you have on the people around you?

We need to learn to recognize when we are backing off from pressure, when we are moving into

the habits that are not success habits (the ones that we need to change). We also need to

recognize the habits that we have that are good, that are leading us towards success, leading

us to our financial freedom. We need to be aware so that we can make changes in our negative

habits and reinforce our positive habits.

We need to learn to recognize that when we wish for something, ask for something, pray for

something or when we say affirmations for something, it’s not going to just happen. It’s not

going to be handed to us on a silver platter. One of my affirmations is “I am building a team

of dream achievers” Now, I know that that is going to take patience and perseverance and that

this whole team of dream achievers are not just going to be dumped in my lap. I have to go

looking for them and attract them into my life.

As I go down the personal development journey and build my best home

businesses from home I come up against pressure points all the time. When I think back to

the pressure points in my life last year at this time versus this year - whoa! - last year’s

ones seem really simple now. What happens? We are not given exactly what we want right off the

bat. But we are given the opportunity to develop the skills so that we get better. On my

journey, I am becoming a better team leader. I am practicing my patience and my perseverance in

my own learning so that I become that better learner that attracts, using the Law of Cause and

Effect, that team of dream achievers, the team of business builders.

When that pressure is applied in our lives, patience and perseverance, is what we need in order

to grow through that pressure point. Once we do grow and find different habits to allow us to

get past that pressure point, to allow us to develop the skills, to learn those new things that

we need to learn, we come to a better place and we can handle more pressure. We have new

skills. We know something different. We react in a different away. We remain patient. We

practice the perseverance and can step into success.

Are you applying enough pressure? Are you stepping out into success? Take a look at your

habits. What do you do when the pressure hits? Are you giving yourself the opportunity to

develop a new skill, to become even better than you already are? I would love to hear about

those experiences.. Send me an email at Carla at retirewithcarla.com or give me a phone call at

(778) 835-4032 and let me know, what are the habits that you’ve come across? What are some of

the things that you have done differently?

The easiest way to achieve this when you have a bad business line of credit card is to leave the card at home. If you really need the purchase, you can go back to the store the next day. This will give you time to think about whether you really need to buy those new shoes or could you get by without them?

Pressure, Are You Applying Enough to Attain Your Financial Freedom

May 23rd, 2009

Pressure, Are You Applying Enough to Attain Your Financial Freedom

One of the things that I have discovered in my journey of personal development is that I must make the choice to step into success or I will just stand in failure. I find that it is necessary to apply pressure to myself in order to move forward and take those steps into success. Do you apply pressure to yourself? Let me ask you a question: do you wait until the last minute to finish a task, project or chore? Are you one of those people who accomplish 70% of the project in the last 10% of the time?’

If you said yes to either of those questions then you are applying pressure to yourself. Some of us work better by doing little bits and pieces of the project, task or chore as we go. Others work much better when they are under the gun. When they know they ‘gotta get it done’, ‘it’s due tomorrow’, ‘it’s due in two hours’.. Some people are much better when they are applying that pressure to themselves.

We need to be able to recognize where we fall on that scale and realize how best we react because if we don’t apply any pressure at all to ourselves then we are we are not going to learn, grow and step up into the success that we want in our lives. We all want success in our lives, whether it is emotionally, in relationships, with our family, in our home business, or with our finances. We all want some form of success in our life, if not in ALL of these areas!

Many times, we human beings waste time feeling guilty. By doing this we are wasting our own time and energy. When we get to the point of the deadline for that project, task or chore and we’re feeling so guilty - ‘oh why didn’t I do something sooner? I should have spent more time! Why did I spend my time on that thing and not get this project started?’ As human beings need to learn that it is okay and to recognize that’s how we cope best, we work best under pressure. So stop feeling guilty about it! Stop beating yourself up, because when we stop beating ourselves up and wasting energy on the guilt, we have more time and more energy to invest in the project, chore or task we want to complete.

The other thing that we do, in order to not apply the pressure, is we hide behind our responsibilities. I used to do this so well - hide behind my responsibilities. Many times when I have talked to people about a home based business opportunity, they say ‘oh, well I don’t have the time to do something like that. I am so busy! I have my family. I have my job. I have my charities. I have my hobbies.’ We all have those different responsibilities in our life. But what we need to decide is ‘Is this project/task/business something that I really want to do or rather is this task/business/project going to create a result that I want. You have to begin by deciding what result you want in your life and then arrange your time based on achieving those results. Ask yourself : ‘Are there things I could rearrange or even drop all together to make time to do this?’

Are you applying the pressure to your own life to do what it is you really want to do? Sometimes those tasks or chores are not really things that we want to do, but we want that specific end result so we do them. We want our relationships to work well. We want our financial freedom. We want to be able to take our family to Disneyland. We want that specific end result, the successful life. Today I just assisted my husband in setting up his financial filing system, I sure did not want to spend time doing it, however I want the end result!! The end result of the nice clean, tidy organized paperwork resulting in his taxes being completed on time. I put the pressure on myself, assisted him and now I am very glad I did. Not only did the paperwork issue get better but so did our relationship because my husband felt much supported.

We need to focus on the results we want instead of hiding behind the excuses of ‘I don’t have the time,I’ve got to go to work, I’ve got to take my daughter to soccer. I have got to take my dog to the vet’. Yes, those are all things that need to be done. However when we decide that achieving a certain task/chore/business is a priority that we could rearrange our time or give up some unnecessary activities to free up time if we really wanted to. If we really want that result, we could get it done, it just takes a decision. We will then stop investing in the guilt. we will stop hiding behind the responsibilities and figure out a way to make it happen.

There is a universal law, like the law of gravity called the Law of Growth;. In order to exist, we need to grow. How we grow is our choice. What seeds do we want to plant? Do we want to plant the seeds of not getting something done? Or do we want the seeds of success habits, applying the pressure and stepping into the successful life that we know we deserve. We all deserve a successful life! Ask yourself “am I applying the correct pressure on myself to create my successful life?” I hope you are!

Choosing the Business

May 16th, 2009

Choosing the Business

A home based business opportunity can be either product-oriented or service-oriented. Product-oriented businesses are usually two types: a) selling products made by you, family members and/or employees (like raw materials such as fabrics or tanned leather, kits like yarn/pattern and knitting needles, partially finished items like unpainted bird houses or completed articles such as jewelry and belt buckles) or b)selling products manufactured by others and either purchased by you for resale or sold on an order basis. Services may involve performing a service at the place of business (word processing, tutoring, bookkeeping or child care) or at another location (house painting, carpet cleaning or consulting). To determine or confirm your business opportunity idea(s), examine your interests, skills and abilities, education/training, and experiences.
You must enjoy doing the work involved. Just because you make super apple pies or wooden toys doesn’t mean that you would want to create them six days a week. Perhaps you would rather teach others to make pies or toys! Teaching requires a totally different set of skills and interests than doing the actual work yourself. See (Appendix A) for a list of business ideas.

Searching for Financing

May 7th, 2009

Searching for Financing

Inadequate capital is the cause of many home business failures even though most home-based businesses require a limited amount of start-up money. There are several sources to consider when looking for financing for your business. But first you need to consider how much money you are going to need. Consider all of the expenses of starting up your business and add on at least three months of operating costs. Do a cash flow analysis as given in Appendix I (6KB PDF) to determine capital needs. The SBDC (1-800-455-7232) can assist you with developing and completing your cash flows. When you know what you need, start looking for sources of capital. Experienced business owners recommend that at least half, if not more, of your business opportunity investment should come from personal savings. This can include profit shares or early retirement funds, real estate equity loans, cash-value insurance policies, or credit card advances. (Note: credit card interest rates may be very high compared to other sources of capital.) If you do not have enough startup money, consider borrowing from friends and relatives who believe in you and your business plan. But remember to do it on a business-like basis by writing up a loan agreement that specifies the amount borrowed, the length of the loan period, the interest rate, schedule of payments, and any collateral.
Banks are sometimes reluctant to lend to owners of new businesses because the business has no background of proven success. If you are persistent, have a good business plan, demonstrate through market research that there is a market for your product or service, and can prove your worthiness as a business owner, you will find many ways to finance your business. Business Management and Image

May 1st, 2009

Business Management and Image

Experts on home based business opportunity management report a direct relationship between certain business management practices and income produced. These practices include having a highly serious attitude about the business; maintaining a well-equipped office; using the yellow pages for advertising; using professionals for advice; securing a business bank account; incorporating the business; operating within all local, state and federal laws and regulations; making sure the telephone is answered during business hours; hiring employees; belonging to professional associations, and using delivery services. Other practices that are important to a good business image are being well groomed and appropriately dressed; having an orderly and clean workplace; posting your business hours and following the schedule; having good quality printed materials; maintaining good customer service, and using good manners at all times.
Customer Relations. Good customer relations are essential for any business. Money spent on advertising and promotion could be wasted if the customer is not treated appropriately. Business people and their employees should deal with customers in a manner that neither offends them nor allows them to take advantage of you or your business.
Establish business policies on dealing with customers before you open for business opportunity. Try to anticipate problems, objections, or special situations that may occur and determine how you want to deal with them. Try role playing possible situations that employees of your business may encounter.
Strive to convince customers that you are genuinely interested. Providing a good product or service reinforces this. Work that fails to satisfy you or the customer is a poor advertisement for your business. According to consumer surveys, a person who has had an unpleasant experience with a business will tell on average 9 to 10 other people. Some may tell as many as 20 people or more.
Solving complaints promptly may not only bring customers back, but they will have something positive to talk about. Customers who have had a good experience with a business will tell an average of five other people, some of whom may become new customers.
Business cards. A professionally printed card is an asset to almost any business. Include your name, address, phone number, products or services you provide and an attractive logo if you have one. Cards done on personal computer are appropriate if attractive and look professional.
Letterhead and envelopes. Printed letterhead shows your customers that you are a professional business person. You may want to announce your business by mailing notices to prospective customers. Letterhead stationery may also be necessary when purchasing materials and equipment for your business. Many wholesale outlets will not sell to you without it.
Business phone line. The business phone should have a separate line and be answered promptly during business hours by a person or answering device.

Manners matterwhether at the dinner table, during a round of golf, or while watching a movie in a public theater. cover letter etiquette is also important and you can show a hiring manager that you know what that is by demonstrating it in your cover letter for a new job. Be friendly. Be concise. Focus on what the employer is looking for. Avoid overusing the pronoun “I.” Appropriate humor can be a plus. But don’t tell a corny joke or pass on an ‘email forward.’ Keep cover letter etiquette in mind and you will come across as someone the employer will want to interviewand hire.

You will be surprised to see just others still want them. Once you have established your credibility as an online seller, you can move on to selling new stuff. You can eventually contact a wholesaler and come up with your own strategies for your online store.
If selling or marketing is not your thing and you have writing or typing skills, go on and offer your services to the online community. There are many businesses online which are in need of your services. All you need to do is look around for them. If you have academic potential, try doing online tutoring. While many people have ideas, they do not always possess the writing skills. And because of this many are more than willing to pay for fresh and enticing content.
The last idea to consider is creating a web site and selling your own products. There is nothing more rewarding then selling your own products that you created. Along with selling products of your own, having a web site also gives you the opportunity to do all of the methods listed above. While it can become a handful, it will give you multiple ways to generate income.

Consumer participation in identifying research and development priorities for power wheelchair input devices and controllers

April 20th, 2009

Consumer participation in identifying research and development priorities for power wheelchair input devices and controllers

A focus group comprised of persons who use power wheelchairs, handicap scooters and professionals working in the field were asked to participate in a brainstorming session to determine priorities for the development and application of power mobility input devices and control concepts. The group consensus was that durability and reliability are the most important criteria. Essentially, the expectation is that a power wheelchair must work everyday in the way a person needs it and wants it. At the same time, there is a desire to enhance and advance the features of input devices and control systems. Many would say these changes constitute designing “smarter” power wheelchairs, such as systems that can independently detect obstacles and can provide users with more feedback. This paper presents the rationale behind forming this focus group and details of the results of a brainstorming session where ideas were generated and prioritized. The five most important issues as determined by the group are discussed in depth.
